National Insurance Awareness Day is June 28th. Although this day is not the most exciting of the National Days to celebrate, for homeowners and property managers, this day should not go ignored!
National Insurance Awareness Day serves as a yearly reminder to review your policies. No one questions the importance of people purchasing commercial and residential insurance policies “just in case”, but most often these policies are purchased and filed away without a second thought. That is, until a catastrophe hits! After suffering property damage to your home or business, is not the time for you to start trying to understand your policy.
This National Insurance Awareness Day be proactive. Commit to getting to know your policy! Here are somethings you can do now, to make sure you are prepared when it is time to make a claim:
1. Organize your insurance policies. Create a hard copy, as well as a digital copy for your records.
2. Review your policies and coverages. Do you know understand what is covered? Do you understand what exclusions may apply?
3. Educate yourself on different types of policies and decide if what your current plan is right for you.
4. Question whether you have had any life changes that leave you under-insured with your current policy?
5. Schedule an appointment with your insurance agent to discuss your current policy, and any changes you should make to ensure you have the coverage you need.
6. Set up a savings account to put aside funds to pay your deductible.
